Mac OS X Deployment and Management Software

* Carbon Copy Cloner

Clone, synchronize, backup. Schedule and forget it. Try it 'til you trust it.

The key to a successful backup plan is to actually do the backups regularly. When left to a human, the task often gets tacked on to the end of a very long list of other things to do. When you eventually have a catastrophe, the data is simply gone. You know that feeling -- you just lost six years of family photos. Your kids being born, their first birthdays, their first everything. The answer to this is consistent and regular backups, placed on a schedule and handled automatically by your computer.

CCC 3.0 features a new interface designed to make the cloning and backup procedure more intuitive and more responsive. Users have better control over what gets backed up, and are provided with detailed information about the progress of their backup. In addition to general backup, CCC can also clone one hard drive to another, copying every single block or file to create an exact replica of your source hard drive. CCC's block-level copy offers the absolute best fidelity in the industry!

* NetRestore

NetRestore is a software deployment tool developed in AppleScript Studio. You can use NetRestore to restore a master disk image to a computer's hard disk while that disk image is hosted locally, on a network via AFP, or on the internet via HTTP. NetRestore can also be used in conjunction with NetBoot to fully automate the deployment of a lab full of machines. NetRestore was designed to be very easy to use, yet flexible, powerful, and extensible. Finally, NetRestore is based on the Mac OS X native version of Apple Software Restore, so your deployment will be fast and accurate.

* BootPicker

With the advent of Boot Camp comes the possibility of deploying multi-boot Macs and permitting your end users to choose whichever platform will work best for whatever they'd like to do at the moment. But how do you manage the presentation of this choice? BootPicker is an application that runs on startup immediately prior to LoginWindow. Based upon your configuration, it presents an option to the end user to choose an operating system. Upon choosing that OS, the machine either continues to Mac OS X or reboots to the specified OS. The next time the computer is rebooted, it automatically returns to Mac OS X and the boot picker.

* NetBoot Across Subnets

The name says it all, this application allows you to configure a machine to boot to a NetBoot server, whether is on the same subnet or across campus. NBAS also allows you to create a package installer that has an empty payload and a post-action script that sets the startup parameters appropriately to NetBoot across subnets. This package is ideal for use with Apple Remote Desktop.
